What would you choose?

So, seeing as it is Day 2 of Blog MAYbe and a Wednesday, I am supposed to ask my readers something about themselves.

I have a good one for this!

Everyone I know has a list of favorite books and movies. Sometimes those coincide. Sometimes, the book is on the list, but they hate the movie version. So here’s my question for you readers: If any book could be made into a movie, what would you choose? Why?

My choice? Well, I’d love to see Percy Jackson done according to the books (though if you look at it separately, the current movie version isn’t awful.). One that hasn’t been done at all? I’d love to see a movie of either The Goddess Test or Katie MacAlister’s The Corset Diaries. :)

What are your choices?

No contest: Arundhati Roy’s “The God Of Small Things” is crying out to be made into a good film. It is a truely magical book. I wish someone would take it on.

Thanks for stopping by! I haven’t read that one yet – I’ll definitely have to check it out!

I’d definitely recommend it. There are no guarantees in matters of taste but I think it’s possibly the finest novel I’ve ever read. The way the tragedy unfolds in three different times at once is both agony and beauty in equal measure. I couldn’t put it down.

  2. Oh interesting question.

For me it would have to be The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton. It’s my favourite kid’s book and would love for it to be made into a movie … not sure if it has been yet.

  3. Ooh…good question. I’d love to see Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series made into a movie(s). If you’ve never read it (what are you waiting for?!), it’s a sweeping, epic, time-travel, swash-buckling, historical love story set in Scotland. It’s kind of like Braveheart (or Rob Roy) meets Time Traveler’s Wife meets Princess Bride. SO. GOOD.

I do love those books. Did you know they actually had a group that wanted to turn it into a musical? If you go to her website, you can listen to clips (or buy their album). Interesting idea, right?

  4. Yes on the Diana Gabaldon’s series and also Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi.

  5. Dang. I have too many! My FIRST choice would be the Abhorsen series (Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen) by Garth Nix. I think I read that series every year and it’s Ah-MAZ-ing. My SECOND choice would HAVE to be The Gentlemen Bastard Series (The Lies of Locke Lamora, Red Seas Under Red Skies, etc) by Scott Lynch. But it would have to be all Game of Thrones style HBO series to be done right. And lastly, (though still high on the list) THIRD would have to be The King Killer Chronicles (The Name of the Wind, The Wise Man’s Fear) by Patrick Rothfuss. Again though, I’m not sure it could be a movie, unless it had Peter Jackson at the helm.

    • Vanessa says:

I haven’t read any of those. I’ll have to try them. I tried to read Nix’s new series, but I didn’t care for them. I’ve heard good things about Abhorsen from a lot of people.

I’d love to see a film version of Kathleen Winsor’s Forever Amber. I’m told the film version of many decades ago was just awful, and didn’t do justice to the historical saga. I’d also love to see a film version of Franz Werfel’s The Forty Days of Musa Dagh, about a group of Armenians who bravely resisted the Turks during the Armenian Genocide.

  7. Books to film, let’s see…A Discovery of Witches would be awesome to see as a movie. Also the Forbidden Game series by L.J. Smith, Outlander would we FABULOUS to see as a movie. The Green Rider. Oh and Sean Griswold’s Head. Most of the ones I love have already been made into books/movies.

I keep looking at A Discovery of Witches, but I haven’t read it yet. I guess I’ll go add that one to the never-ending list…..

  8. Shatter Me. It’s new and since it’s getting compared to The Hunger Games, maybe it’ll happen. I don’t think it’s really like Hunger Games, but it is adrenaline-pumping.
